A BSNL office shut during a strike by security guards in Kalimpong on Friday.

The guards went on strike in the hills, demanding that they be paid on a par with their colleagues in Calcutta. The protest was organised by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha-affiliated Janmukti United Labour Welfare Organisation (BSNL Security Guards Sector). The striking guards also closed down the BSNL office in Darjeeling and held a demonstration.
The strike was lifted after the authorities assured the agitators that the demand for pay hike would be considered.
