Mt Everest conquerer presents gear to state museum to inspire the generation
Sept 17 (PTI) : The first person from Arunachal Pradesh to scale the Mt Everest, Tapi Mra, handed over his entire Everest expedition gear to the state museum to inspire the generation next.At a function here today, Mra presented altogether 46 items like ice axe, mountaineering boots, backpack etc to the Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum for public viewing."These equipment will surely motivate the youths of our state towards adventure sports and they will accept every challenge of life to achieve their goals," Mra told PTI.He called upon the youths to set a goal in life and join hands in development of the state in particular and the nation as a whole.Hailing from Limeking village in Upper Subansiri district close to Indo-China border, Mra conquered the 8848 metre peak on May 21, 2009 at the age of 24.A keen adventure sports enthusiast, Mra did his mountaineering course from the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling, a certificate course in para-gliding from Manali and a course in water sports from Pongdam in Himachal Pradesh.Mra is the second person to scale the Mt Everest from the North Eastern region after Nongmaithem Suraj of Manipur who achieved the fete on May 22, 2008.
