Darjeeling based Golden Tips Tea is setting up 'tea Boutiques' to promote Darjeeling Tea across India. The company is investing Rs 30 lakh per store and will be opening 10 stores all over India.
On Monday, it has opened its first 'tea boutique in Pune. The other outlets will be opening in the cities like Bengalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Darjeeling and Gangtok. There are over 250 varieties of tea available in this boutiques. Speaking on this, Madhav Sarda, managing director of Golden Tips Tea Company (P) Ltd said, " This is a new concept in the area of tea marketing. In order to create awareness and popularise tea as a health and wellness beverage we have conceived the idea of opening tea boutiques across India. We want people to taste the finest, purest and freshest teas but also to see, taste and purchase a large variety of Darjeeling Teas which are perceived as the world’s best."
He added, "People love the ambiance of our boutiques, the collection and presentation of the teas, the special items on display and sale like tea kettles, tea pots and sets, tea strainers and infusers, spoons and tea cosies, books and other tea paraphernalia. In these boutiques, customer can come, see, feel, smell, sip and enjoy various flavours of tea."
According to Sarda, India is the biggest producer and consumer of tea in the world. Assam produces 900 million kilograms of tea every year out of which Darjeeling Tea production is only nine million kg every year.
The boutiques are will have all kinds of teas from Darjeeling, Assam Nilgiris and also the specialty Jubilee Tea, Pride of Darjeeling, Second Pick, Queen of Hills, Flowery Pekoe Green Tea, White Tea, Oolong Tea, GOP and Jasmine Tea. They are priced at Rs 500 to Rs 20,000 per Kg.
The company does not own any tea estate in Assam or Darjeeling and only does packaging, marketing, online sales and exports. The company exports 25 per cent of its total volume of tea to the countries like Germany, Italy, Russia, Malaysia, China and Indonesia. ]It procures tea from Himalayan foothills, South India, Assam and Kangras from the Dhauladhar range of the in the North.
