Dil Kumar Rai murdered at Singla Tea Estate in Darjeeling

KURSEONG, 29 DEC: A GJMM leader and one of the accused in AIGL chief Madan Tamang’s murder case, Dil Kumar Rai (36) was murdered at Singla Tea Estate in Darjeeling last evening.
The elder brother of the deceased, Mr Dil Chandra Rai, has filed an FIR with the Darjeeling Sadar Police against four people in connection with the murder. He alleged that a country-made firearm and a kukri had been used to murder his younger brother. The four people against whom the FIR has been lodged are Mr Bhumkush Subba and his two sons, Mr Nischal Subba, Mr Nippo Subba, and another, Mr Dewan Subba. Providing details, the Darjeeling ASP, Mr Kunal Agarwal, said police had been informed about the murder around 8 p.m. today. “We sent a police team immediately to the spot. A probe has been started,” he said.
He said: “The deceased is one of the accused in the Madan Tamang assassination case. He was murdered while he was on his way to Singla Tea Estate at Gorudhura under Darjeeling Sadar police station. He was a permanent resident of Singla when the assassination took place. Apart from the FIR, his name figured in the charge-sheet filed by Darjeeling police.
However, he remained elusive despite police attempts to track him down. We conducted several raids from time to time to track him down. But we failed to get him,” he said.
A senior police officer said personal enmity might have been involved in the murder. “Prima facie, it seems so. But we are digging deep into the matter as the murdered person has political, as well as, criminal associations,” he said. The GJMM leadership has refused to comment on the murder.  sns
