Sikkim Democratic Front celebrates 17th anniversary of Government Formation

Gangtok, December 12/Sanjay Agarwal : The completion of 17 years of the formation of Sikkim Democratic Front Government was celebrated at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok, today. It was an occasion to retrospect and take stock of the achievements made within the last 17 years since the formation of the Sikkim Democratic Front Government and take pledge to rededicate the task that lies ahead. The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Minister and other dignitaries on the dais.



The Chief Minister took to the stage and said that we have huge responsibility ahead of us. He said that it gives him immense happiness in being able to have served the state for the past 17 years and to step ahead on the 18th year. The Chief Minister added that he is satisfied to work in accordance with people’s feelings and public mandate. The work which has been done in the past 17years cannot be neglected and history will testify to the results which the present government has undertaken and achieved so far. The tasks which were

incomplete during the former regimes and which needed immediate importance are now all completed. The present government has done a lot in every sectors of the state and people have benefitted in equal

level by enjoying equal rights enshrined in the Constitution of India. Leadership and vision are most important and people can make government by votes but leaders are most important as they make the state. Reiterating the  fact that the government has provided the people with all the facilities required but the services have still not reached the doorsteps of the people, he appealed the government officials to work relentlessly in providing best services to the common people. State Missions which has been initiated by the state Government such as Green Mission, Organic Mission, Literacy Mission has been applauded and is being implemented by the Centre as well. Pilgrimage tourism has boomed in the state and it has helped the younger generation by providing employment opportunities. This has also introduced Sikkim in the map of pilgrimage tourism and help in attracting the tourist world over to this tiny state. The Chief Minister said that Sikkim was hit by a massive catastrophe on September 18 and the main task ahead of us now is to work on the earthquake damages and the rehabilitation process. The Chief Minister thanked the people of Sikkim on this

occasion and urged the  people to work towards betterment and for further development in the state. The Chairman, Public Accounts Committee, Mr Menlom Lepcha also spoke on the occasion. While presenting the welcome address the Chief Secretary, Mr. Karma Gyatso highlighted the work and the achievements done by the present government. He said that  under the able leadership of the Chief Minister our state has seen a period of resurgence and good governance. Sikkim under the visionary leadership of the present

government has relentlessly led from the front and the level of success achieved in terms of quality development, economic growth of the state and development in key sectors cannot be overlooked.

     A brief report on the achievements of the government during the last 17 years of Sikkim Democratic Front government was presented by the Development Commissioner, Mr. A.K.Yadav. The Chief Minister also released an illustrative book on earthquake of 18th September 2011 published by the Information and

Public Relations Department. It was followed by the release of report on the activities of Capacity Building and Livelihood schools published by Labour Department. A documentary film on 42 days village to village tour of Chief Minister prepared by Information and Public Relations Department was also screened on the occasion.

   The programme ended by vote of thanks by the Information and Public Relation Department, Secretary, Mr K.S.Topgay.
