Gangtok, Jan. 2.TT: Nathu-la and Yumthang Valley received the season’s first snowfall in Sikkim yesterday. A snow cover of around 18inches has blocked Jawaharlal Nehru Marg that connects Gangtok to Chhangu Lake and the Nathu-la border pass at 14,400feet.
Police said snowfall started around 2.30pm yesterday in Nathu-la, and Kupup and Gnathang villages near the border pass were covered with snow. No tourists are being allowed beyond 13th Mile on MG Marg. Snowfall was also reported from Lachen and Lachung in North Sikkim. Weather officials said western disturbances were passing over Sikkim and they might lead to more snowfall in the area.
