The following is the press statement issued by DGP, Sikkim Shri Jasbir Singh on the eve of 42nd All India Police Science Congress at Gangtok, Sikkim from 15th to 17th February, 2012:
It is a matter of pride for us that Sikkim Police has been selected to host the 42nd All India Police Science Congress at Gangtok, Sikkim from 15th to 17th February, 2012. It is the first ever police conference of such magnitude to be held in Sikkim and we are thankful to the BPR&D, Ministry of Home Affairs for reposing their trust in us.
We had second thoughts on holding the Congress after the devastating earthquake that struck the State in September, 2011 but with the kind support and backing of the Hon’ble Chief Minister we are happy to have gone ahead with the organization of the event.
Sikkim is a compact State and so is the Sikkim Police. Organisation of an event of this size requires that each and every member of the force join in the efforts. I am proud to say that all officers of the Sikkim Police and in particular the members of the organizing committee and the officers assisting them have put in a lot of hard work in the organization of the Congress.
The Sikkim Police hopes to not only benefit from the organizational experience but also gain from the deliberations of the Congress on contemporary issues facing the police such as cyber crime, minor disputes, police reforms, ensuring integrity and technological up-gradations in police work. We hope to build up in all members of our force a scientific temperament and knowledge of the advancements in policing and use the same in the service of the society.
We also hope that with such exercises the police will grow out of the traditional methods of policing and manage crime and law & order through use of sound legal procedures and technology. It is an enhanced police-public partnership that we seek and we wish to have the support of the community and the media in our endeavors.
We thank Her Excellency The President, Hon’ble Vice-President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Union Home Minister, His Excellency the Governor, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Hon’ble Union Minister of State of Home and senior officers of the Central and State Government for their kind messages of support for the success of the 42nd All India Police Science Congress being held at Gangtok, Sikkim.
