Darjeeling, Feb 6 : The West Bengal Government is committed to the issue of GTA, Governor M K Narayanan said here today.
The gorvernor, who alighted from a train at the New Jalpaiguri rail station this morning on a three-day holiday tour of Darjeeling, said the state government would fulfil all commitments it has made in terms of the issue of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.
Meanwhile, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) central committee informed that they had set a deadline of March 27 before the state government for the formation of the (GTA) and added failing which they would resume the Gorkhaland movement on April 17.
The Calcutta High Court judge (Retd) Shyamal Sen-headed high-power committee set up by the state government to ascertain the jurisdiction of the GTA has sought an extension of six months a few days ago, sources said.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who took up the issue of GTA with much alacrity, is scheduled to visit the hills on February 10 to attend the North Bengal Festival, they said. (UNI)
