Imphal, April 17 2012: The Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union has refused the news report which appeared in some section of the media that put the total population of the Gorkha population at 3 lakh.
A rejoinder issued by the MGWU today clarified that the total population of entire Gorkha population in Manipur does not cross more than 50,000 ever since the settlement of the community in the State in 1891 .
The statement said that the record maintained by the Gorkha Welfare Union can be verified by any intending organisation and the same could be confirmed with the Directorate of Census Operation.
It said due to scarcity of jobs in the State, many Gorkha youths left the State in search of greener pastures.
Therefore, instead of influx in the population it is in the efflux adding that the news report was without authentication and baseless.
