All eyes are now set for the first half of June when the panel led by Justice Shyamal Sen will submit its report on mouzas of Terai and Dooars that will come under the Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA).
On Tuesday, the panel concluded its final meeting, which was attended by representatives of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM). “We were not consulted on how many number of mouzas we would be given. We have submitted all our research documents along with the voter lists of the mouzas we demanded to Justice Sen. At present, we can only wait for the report to be submitted,” said a GJM leader.
Asked on how many number of mouzas of Doaars and Terai they expect to be made part of the GTA, the GJM leader said, “We will expect 100 per cent. But we think the mouzas that have more than 50 per cent Nepali population will be made part of the GTA.”
The GJM has demanded 398 mouzas from Terai and Dooars regions to be included in the GTA. Significantly, the GJM members have not been made part of the final decision-making body as they themselves are the stakeholders of the issue.
Justice Sen today said, “We will submit our report by early June. The report is confidential and it would be submitted to the government.”
Elections for the GTA will be held in July.
