Kalimpong Town beefs up for 66th I-Day celebrations

Mukesh Sharma: The preparations for the 66th Independence Day celebrations are at full swing at Mela Ground, Kalimpong. The initial celebrations have already commenced with the football matches being played, however, the decoration work of the ground started from today onwards. Even all the Schools of Kalimpong are beefing up for the celebrations and the students are most of the time seen rehearsing for the I- Day parade and other cultural programmes at their respective School grounds. The Band Groups of various Schools are also seen practicing hard.Every year, the I-Day is celebrated with full fervor in Kalimpong during which 25- 30 Schools from the town partake in the celebrations. During 15th August, Kalimpong has become a centre of attraction for the past 60- 65 years for the people of Darjeeling and Sikkim.

Algaraha gears up I-Day celebration

The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha Algaraha Brach today organized a meeting under the Chairmanship of Sonam Tshering Lepcha to discuss for the upcoming Independence Day celebration, at the GJM office in Algaraha. The representatives from the Naari Morcha, Yuwa Morcha, Student Morcha, and Drivers Associations were present on the meeting. The meeting decided to celebrate the 66th Independence Day in a grand manner and all the schools coming under the 37 No constituency shall take part on the day.
