The hill town of Darjeeling has a history of being a tourist
destination. It is best known as the roots to Darjeeling Tea, toy train
or Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and views of the might Kanchenjunga. The
development of the town began in the mid-19th century, when the British
set up a sanatorium and a military depot. Before this the town's
history is entangled with those of Sikkim, Nepal and Bengal. Recently,
Darjeeling has come under the spotlight with the success of the Hindi
film Barfi!
