Water kingdom to come up at three places in Darjeeling hills

DARJEELING, 2 SEPT: To promote tourism in the Hills, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administrators (GTA) will build a world class “water kingdom” at Reli-Kalimpong, Darjeeling–Jamuney and Beltar– Kurseong.

The new council plans to use arrears of Darjeeling Gorkha Autonomous Hills Council (DGAHC) funds for it.
“The proposal has been cleared by our chief, Mr Bimal Gurung, to construct an international water kingdom to promote Hills tourism. A renowned constructor, Mr Mehta, will take over the project. The GTA will use 2011-2012 DGHC funds and the construction is likely to be completed in six months from now,” said the GTA member and Cultural and Information department head, Mr Binay Tamang.
The site chosen has running water/streams that will be helpful in constructing these water kingdoms, he said.
Mr Tamang said: “We're trying to complete the work within 4-6 months work for which will go on round-the clock.”
Rock Garden, once a famous water park near Darjeeling, still remains deprived after Cyclone Aila destroyed its attraction few years ago. Although tourists visit the spot and enjoy whatever is left but the administration has not taken any step to renovate the place.
