Steps have been initiated to set up a Football Academy at Pedong with the help of Mohun Bagan Club. With the establishment of the club, the lost glory of football is expected to regain. Following the same the students of various schools were edified in detail about the game of football during a programme held at the public sports ground of Pedong on Tuesday.
Pedong, once upon a time was known for quality footballers. But with time, the glory of the game has subsided. Thus, in order to bring back the same and produce good footballers the GTA Sabhasad, Dawa Lepcha along with former footballer, Shyam Lama and other local footballers are striving to set up the Football Coaching Centre.
Former footballer Shyam Lama said that there are many former footballers in the hills who have played in national and international games. Therefore, time has now arrived to impart all our experiences to the budding talents, further helping them become skillful players, he added.
Likewise, former goal keeper of the Indian Football Team and presently the Under 19 Football Observer of Mohun Bagan, Kalyan Choubey said that it has become needful to teach about football at Pedong. The steps taken by the Sabhasad and Shyam Lama is commendable, he said and added that every child has an ability which needs to be nurtured well.
Choubey also handed 5 footballs to the Sabhasad and also assured of all help possible from the club. Also present during the function was the first female working member of Mohun Bagan, Sohini Mitra.
The Mohan Bagan Club will also be holding a training camp for the students on December 14, 2012. December, being a holiday month, the students can avail good training about the game in their free time.
