Garbage dumping has become one of the major issues for Kalimpong town. Garbage is being dumped in every nook and corner of the town since last three weeks which has been creating inconvenience for the public.
The representatives of the CPI (M), ABGL, and CPI (ML) approached the Municipality today to take a heed on the matter. The municipality earlier used to dumb garbage at river Teesta which has now been put halt due to construction of the NHPC dam. Since now there are no alternative dumping zones in the town the garbage can be found littered everywhere. The garbage is also spreading foul smell and harming the peoples’ health. The representatives met with the municipality president LB Pariyar and highlighted the issues. Reciprocating to their complaints Pariyar said that the municipality has purchased a 6 and half acres land at Rs. 12 lacs at Newar Gaon, near Dalman Gaon for the dumping zone. The land has already been registered and soon the town’s garbage will be dumped there, he added.Pariyar said that the road leading to the place is rough which will be soon reconstructed. The CPI (M) leader Tara Sundas said that though they are against the ruling party in the hills but when it comes to the matters of the society the issues need to be solved first. The municipality has appealed the public of Dalman Gaon to cooperate and later not to complain about the garbage being dumped in their area.
