Issues have risen in Kalimpong over the unhygienic drinking water supply from one of the reservoirs of the water distribution channel at Thakur Bari. The people have complained that there are traces of bones of mice. The experts of the area when asked about the same said that such issues are not occurring for the first time in Kalimpong. Presence of mice bones in the water is something has happened before too, they said. They informed that the water tanks have been built during the British regime and no new tanks have been constructed since then and neither the old tanks are maintained. The concerned department are least bothered to even clean the tanks and the surrounding areas once in a while, they said.“We are used to drink contaminated water. We feel different if we get to drink pure water”, said the locals sarcastically. The Thakur Bari, Taksari Road, Elaichi Khop and Bhalu Khop areas are distributed water from the said tank.Chuchu Tamang, ward councilor of the area said that they have surveyed the area and soon a new water tank will be constructed. All the formalities have been completed for the same, added Tamang.
