Are all women getting raped? - Mamata

West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata, June 24 : Hit by criticisms over the growing incidents of crime against women in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has defended her government over the issue by asking that whether 'all girls' are raped in the state.

"It is a lie...Are all women in the state being raped? Such comments are insulting our women and our soil," Banerjee said while addressing a rally in North 24-Parganas district's Minakhan area on Sunday.

Banerjee on Wednesday alleged the Congress, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Maoists and certain section of the media are conspiring to kill her.

"I have information that the CPI(M), Congress, Maoists and a section of the media are conspiring to kill me," Banerjee said while addressing a panchayat poll campaign in West Bengal's Bongaon town last week.

She further alleged that the CPI-M and the Maoists joined hands to kill her during her visit to Kamduni village near Barasat city on June 17.

Banerjee on June 17 faced protests when she met family of a 20-year-old girl who was gangraped and murdered at Kamduni village earlier this month.

The villagers, mostly women, had gathered outside the victim's family, and shouted anti-government slogans when Banerjee was meeting the family.

Amid protests by villagers, Banerjee lost her cool and said the accused were CPI-M supporters.

The Chief Minister visited the family ten days after the college student was gangraped and murdered on June 7.

The college girl returning home was gangraped and killed by some men in Barasat.
