GNLF supporters hoists party flags in Mirik

While Mirik residents were seen busy shopping today during the 24-hour relaxation given to the shutdown, some GNLF supporters were seen busy hoisting their party flags at several vantage points. The GNLF’s Village Protection Cell members were entrusted with the task of hoisting the party flags.

Mirik-Soureni VPC commander Santamani Rai said as party flags were destroyed by antisocial elements, new flags are being put up in support of Gorkhaland. Claiming Gorkhaland is possible only through the Sixth Schedule, Rai said, “The current movement in the hills is only a drama to fool the public and the people will gain nothing from it.”

According to Rai, the Sixth Schedule is an easier way to achieve a separate state stressing the GNLF is not against Gorkhaland. “If a movement is spearheaded sincerely, the question of not supporting the leadership will not arise at all,” remarked the GNLF leader.(EOI)
