Siliguri/ Darjeeling, 17 September
The schools and colleges across Darjeeling Hills under the Diocese of Darjeeling would join the statewide protest shutdown on 19 September to condemn the alleged injustice meted to the school authority and
property of Chirst Church Girls’ High School of Dum Dum.
The press release issued from the Diocese reads, "All the schools and colleges in the Diocese of Darjeeling will remain closed on Thursday as a mark of protest against the heinous crime meted to the school authority and property of Christ Church Girls’ High School, Dum Dum on 12 September 2013.”
All the schools and colleges run by the Missionaries and all the institutions affiliated to ICSE board across the state would remain shut on Thursday to articulate protest against the alleged vandalism that had recently happened at Christ Church School.
The Siliguri-based Missionary educational institutions and ICSE affiliated schools are also expected to remain closed that day.
The principal of Don Bosco School, Siliguri, Father V T Jose, said: “All the Christian educational institutions would remain closed to express solidarity with the greater cause under stake.”
Commenting on the proposed shutdown of the Missionary schools, the arch bishop, Darjeeling Hills, Stevhen Lepcha said all the 37 educational institutions under the three Hill sub-
divisions would remain closed.
“However, I am personally not happy with the shutdown decision. The institutions here remained shuttered for over a month. The students suffered a great deal. But we must fall in line as a greater cause is involved,” he added.(SNS)
