The
young girl found on Saturday night in an injured state on Hill Cart
Road is currently undergoing treatment at the North Bengal Medical
College and Hospital. She was initially admitted at the Siliguri
district hospital, but had to be shifted to the NBMCH on Sunday night as
her health deteriorated.
The girl had been found bleeding profusely and medical reports have confirmed she was sexually assaulted. NBMCH superintendent Sabyasachi Das said the girl’s could be 16 and she is a resident of Matigara, adding she is out of danger now. Siliguri police commissioner K Jayaraman said a case of rape has been filed on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother.
The occurrence of such an incident on Siliguri’s main thoroughfare, moreover just ahead of Durga Puja, has created a sense of insecurity among townspeople and they have joined party leaders in demanding the arrest of the culprits.(EOI)
