Kurseong/Darjeeling, 1 April: CPIM’s Lok Sabha candidate for the Darjeeling constituency,
Saman Pathak, today organised rallies and road shows in Darjeeling town
and Kurseong.
In Kurseong, he held a rally along with around supporters. Talking to reporters, he said a single tribal status should be given to the Nepali community as a whole, rather than giving away such statuses to several ‘branches.’
“But here, the divide and rule policy of the TMC-led state government is in full play in the name of different development boards, which will only fragment Nepali society into many pieces,” he said.
He further said the CPIM wants a permanent political solution to problems in the Darjeeling Hills through the Amendment 244 of the Sixth Schedule status.
He added that to solve the problem of identity of the Gorkha/Nepali community, the Nepali language should be given a linguistic minority status.
According to him, the GJMM is supporting the BJP, “but they should understand that the BJP is a communal party and it always bases its ideologies on Hindutva.”
He criticized the Congress and said it is a party that hiked the prices of basic commodities, while at the same time it is ‘corrupt.’
In the Darjeeling rally, he said CPIM polital bureau member Sitaram Yechuri will visit Darjeeling and address an election rally on at Chowk Bazaar on 12 April.(SNS)
