Gangtok,25th May : A situation arouse at Sikkim’s capital Gangtok today when
mutually shops were pulled down by respective traders and business
holdings. A sudden closure of state’s biggest market MG Marg, Lal Bazar
led to frustration for thousands of tourists and visitors today.
As per the report, the situation escalated when the loser SDF candidate Uday Lama accompanied by Deputy Mayor Shakti Singh allegedly threatened Lal Bazar shopkeepers. According to one of the trader both had been visiting the shops in daily basis after the day election counting was over, trader also alleged that being a Sunday today yet again they came and repeated their threat of cancelling shopkeepers licenses. But, this time the shopkeepers in straight was chased them away. In the later part, as alleged by traders duo returned back with supporters as such the situation broke out which made a callous to whole Gangtok town traders. Reacting to the matter all the supportive shops pulled down their shutters in and around MG Marg, Lal Bazar rejoining the protest down on the streets in more than thousands. The capital was observed total bandh, commuters also suffered due to that. Its informed , that in the joint FIR lodged by the traders have asked the police to immediately take an action unto the matter irrespective of their position and contacts. Later parties were summoned at Sadar police station where matter could not be resolved between two. Until the report was made the traders have strongly taken the matter related to harassment as such the bandh will continue until the alleged party will no apologize to public as well as traders.
