Various Khambu Rai associations of the
country started affiliating themselves to the All India Kirati Khambu
Rai Association (AIKKRA) in order to back their demand of including
Khambu Rai community within the Scheduled Tribe status.
In keeping with the trend, members of
Kirati Khambu Rai Sanskritik Sansthan of Kurseong led by general
secretary CB Rai today affiliated their association with AIKKRA besides
unanimously forming an AIKKRA Kurseong sub-divisional committee. Khemraj
Rai has been elected the president while SB Rai is the general
secretary of the committee.
Notably, on March 4, 2011 Akhil Kirat
Rai Sangh of Sikkim and the Kirati KIhambu Rai Sanskritik Sansthan of
West Bengal had jointly held a meeting passing a resolution that stated
the Kirati Rai associations spread across the country should hold AIKKRA
as the sole fraternity. Accordingly, an ad-hoc committee was formed on
the same day of the meeting to which Dr. SK Rai from Sikkim was elected
