A team of hill TMC members led by the
party’s Kurseong sub-division convener Kundan Mangrati today served a
deputation to Kurseong sub-divisional medical officer Rumi Mondal
protesting against the pathetic condition of Kurseong hospital. The
deputation has highlighted various problems faced by the hospital,
including shortage of doctors and technicians and insufficient supply of
medicine and diet, among others.
Mondal assured them their grievances and demands will be forwarded to higher authorities of the GTA and the state government.
Talking to reporters, Mangrati said
Kurseong hospital is functioning for more than four years without
experts including general surgeon, orthopedic surgeon, skin specialist,
eye surgeon, physiotherapist, child specialist, ENT and pathologist, to
name a few. He said that it is really unfortunate that the authorities
concerned have still failed to resolve the problems not filling up the
shortage of doctors and other employees.
Mangrati added due to shortage of
doctors, people have been facing various problems and have to visit
medical institutions in Siliguri even for a minor surgery or
treatment.
TMC Kurseong town convener Pemba Zimba
added in the face of the changing political scenario in the Darjeeling
hills, various ‘public interest’ related issues are being ignored. He
said legendary figures such as Fr. Abraham, Dr. Kumar and Dr. Haldar
have made Kurseong their home and lived their entire lives here serving
the people loving and passionately without caring for personal benefits.
But today, the ones responsible for healthcare seem to ignore even the
basic problems of public interest.(EOIC)
