The
hill Trinamool Congress has started making major changes within the
organisation in order to strengthen its base in the hills.
A major change has been made in the youth wing of the party. Bhupendra Lepcha, an active member of the hill TMC from Sonada, has been given the post of youth wing president. He has taken over from Chewang Bhutia of Kalimpong.
Lepcha is an advocate and since the past few years, he has been involved in public service and politics. He had contested from the Kurseong assembly constituency as an independent candidate in the last assembly elections.
Darjeeling district (hills) TMC president Rajen Mukhia confirmed of the development adding a reshuffle within the organisation is going on at various levels. Bhutia will be handed a new post and designation in the district committee, he added.
Mukhia also informed the district committee (hills) and block and town committees will be reshuffled to strengthen the organisation. The Kurseong block committee will be reformed on June 6 and the same will happen to the Bijanbari, Sukhay Pokhari, Mirik, Darjeeling town, Rangli-Rangliot and Kalimpong town block committees on subsequent days.
After the Lok Sabha polls, several changes have been executed by the party high command in the state and district committees. Now, the TMC is eyeing the Panchayat elections and taking measures accordingly to strengthen its base in the hills as well as the plains. (EOIC)
