Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia today said
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertion about the Gorkha people’s dream
being his dream will soon come true.
Speaking during a function at the
Kalimpong Town Hall held to mark his victory in the Lok Sabha election,
the MP said Modi has already pledged to help the people of the hills and
he will definitely fulfill the promise.
“I will do all I can in my capacity as a
representative to help with the development of the region; without any
political influence and bias towards class, caste or creed,” he
stressed.
Ahluwalia said he represents all the
people here including those who voted for him and those who did not. “A
leader is like a doctor who treats patients irrespective of their class,
caste or creed. I will also work for the people in the same way,” he
said.
The MP said Gorkhas are known for their
honesty and bravery and they take responsibilities seriously. “Keeping
this in mind, the government has planned to usher in huge development
projects in the hills, especially for the youths who are unemployed
despite being educated. We have to encourage youths to pursue
administrative courses such as the IAS and IPS,” emphasised Ahluwalia.
He promised to bring development to the
hills and said even if he has to remain in Delhi most of the time, he
would remain fully updated about the hills. The MP added he would put in
every effort during parliamentary sessions for bringing more
development to the hills.
Commenting on the criticism of the
central government for rising inflation, Ahluwalia said the Centre is
doing all it can to resolve the issue. “It will take time for costs to
stabilise as the government is trying to take resuscitate the depleted
economy left by the UPA government,” he added.
Ahluwalia’s victory celebrations started
on June 18 in Darjeeling and have covered Siliguri, Phasidewa and
Naxalbari. As part of the celebrations, he was in Kalimpong today to
thank voters for their support. The function was also embellished by
cultural programmes by the GTA information and culture department.(EOIC)
