The
chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s frequent visit to Darjeeling hills and
her promises could not soothe the hills, as GJM now gears up for a
nationwide movement for the separate state of Gorkhaland.
The GJM leaders, after the Hills, are
now busy convincing workers of the tea gardens in Terai belt that their
party’s ultimate goal is to achieve Gorkhaland and will march to Delhi
to make their movement highlighted nationwide.
Tshering Dahal who recently joined GJM
from GNLF said, “I have changed the flag but not the issue, I have
dreamt about the Gorkhaland and will fight till my death. I have also
joined GJM after seeing that they have not yet dropped the Gorkhaland
demand even after signing of GTA agreement.”
Dahal was speaking in a public meeting
at Panighata Tea Estate here, where she appealed the tea garden workers
to lend support for the cause of Adivashi and Gorkha community.
Harihar Acharya, central committee
member and in-charge of Terai and Dooars of Darjeeling Terai Dooars
Plantation Labour Union (DTDPLU) said there are three political parties
active in hill. “The GNLF is demanding for the sixth schedule and its
leaders have already dropped the Gorkhaland demand. Trinamool Congress
is against the formation of separate state. So the only faithful
political party is the GJM, which is still fighting for Gorkhaland and
has not sidelined the demand,” Acharya explained.
GJM’s movement will begin with a
demonstration at Jantar Mantar on December 18 and 19, where thousands of
GJM leaders and supporters are expected to take part.
