SSB Siliguri Frontier celebrates Republic Day, 27 SSB personnel awarded DGs Silver Disc

On the occasion of Republic Day, Kuldiep Singh IPS Inspector General, Siliguri Frontier, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Darjeeling hoisted the tricolor and the national anthem rent the air at Teesta Stadium on 26th Jan 15. Present on the occasion were Shri A K Mallik DIG Ranidanga Sector Headquarter, Staff Officers Shri S K Sarangi, Kiran Rizal and Suverna Sajwan 2IC, Commandants (Medical) Dr S Priyadarshi, Dr R D Gari and Dr (Mrs) R D Gari, other Officers and personnel, families and retired personnel.



Shri Kuldiep Singh called upon all the SSB personnel to rededicate themselves to the nation with renewed zeal and fortitude. He recollected them of all the great sacrifices made by the freedom fighters during the struggle for Independence and culminating in the declaration of India as a ‘Republic’. He advised the personnel not to lose sight of the challenges that confronts the nation and bring in peace and harmony in the region. He informed the personnel that the Director General of SSB was impressed by the seizures made by us and wanted Siliguri Frontier to continue the good work. He congratulated the conferment of Indian Police Medal by President of India to Shri Prema Das Asst Commandant of 41st Bn Ranidanga, on the occasion of the Republic Day 2015.



Shri Kuldiep Singh IG also highlighted the various achievements of Siliguri Frontier, SSB which included the receipt of Best Battalion and the Second Battalions in SSB to the 53rd Bn Simlabari and the 17th Bn Falakata respectively and the increase in seizures amounting to Rs. 11.04 crores and apprehending 208 persons. He said SSB has proved its mettle during the Golaghat episode recently and during the Assembly elections in the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. He said the frontier had also taken the lead in the conduct of free cleft lip and cleft palate operations, in opening 35,697 bank accounts under Pradhan Manatri Jan Dhan Yojana, enrollment of 555 people for certification and distribution of aids and appliances to the physically challenged, in adoption of 54 villages and 54 schools, etc., under forces Civic Action programmes, BADP and Community Welfare Programmes. He counseled the personnel to maintain a mutually dependent relations with the frontier populace and advised the personnel to add impetus to the pursuit to check Human Trafficking, FICN, illegal arms and explosives, Narcotics, illicit liquor, etc.



Before addressing the jawans, Shri Kuldiep Singh distributed the Director General’s Silver Disc to personnel of Siliguri Frontier. Out of 82 DGs Silver Disc with Commendation Certificate announced this year, Siliguri Frontier personnel were conferred 27 Discs.

Amongst the recipients are, SHRI K M CARIAPPA, Publicity Officer, Siliguri Frontier, for outstanding works in Image building and Civic Action Works. SHRI AJAY KUMAR, Second-in-Command, 53RD Bn Simlabari for unearthing two IEDs and also for facilitating peaceful conduct of elections in some of the toughest locations in Chhattisgarh. SHRI MATILAL ROY, AFO (Vety) Gangtok SHQ for outstanding works in bringing the frontier into the mainstream and training them, as an Instructor and then for extensive Veterinary works, as a veterinarian. SHRI VIKAS MARWAHA, SAO Gangtok SHQ for some prompt administrative and logistic arrangements in Naxalite affected areas during elections in Chhattisgarh. ASI (Tele) RAVI GM Gangtok SHQ for exemplary work in managing the Telecommunication systems in a fail proof manner. CT (GD) DHARMAVEER SINGH 12th Bn Kishanganj, CT (GD) JITENDER KUMAR 12th Bn, CT (GD) SUNIL DUTT 12th Bn and CT (GD) MUKESH SINGH 12th Bn for their daring counter action when Naxalites opened at the post at midnight during the conduct of elections in Chhattisgarh. The members of Central Football Team of SSB were decorated for winning the Bronze Medal in the All India Police Meet held in Secunderabad in 2013. The names of the team members belonging to 41st Bn Ranidanga are, HC/GD Kh. Manaoba Singh, HC/GD L. Ranjan Singh, A. Joy Kumar Singh, H. Govind Singh, CT/GD Atif Rasool, CT/GD Pradeep Basumatary, CT/GD St. Thang Kom, CT/GD Abbasi Muzaffar, CT/GD Malick Asit Kumar, CT/GD Ranadip Das, CT/GD Th. Lukhoi Singh, CT/GD O. Bijeshor Singh, CT/GD H. Bishojit Singh, CT/GD Panjit Kumar, CT/GD Ranjit Karforma, CT/GD Ng. Jit Kumar Singh, CT/GD David Chik Baraik and CT/GD Manoj Kumar Rabha.



Various sports and games were also conducted on the occasion for the personnel and families. The prizes were distributed by Smt Sonali Mallik, President SSB Wives Welfare Association, Ranidanga and Shri Kuldiep Singh IG Siliguri Frontier. 


Bangladeshi Infiltrator Apprehended at Panitanki BOP by SSB


Personnel of 41st Battalion Ranidanga of Siliguri Frontier, Sashastra Seema Bal apprehended a Bangladesh national near at Panitanki SSB Border Out Post on the international border between India and Nepal at 9.00 am on 25th Jan 15. Md Adul Jalil aged 30 years is the son of one Md Dana Mial and a resident of Khanilla Village under Nabi Nagar Police Station in Brahmanbari District in Bangladesh. By vocation he said that he was Mason.

In view of the high alert all the Commandants and Officers of SSB have been camping in BOPs along the border areas.

On suspicion he was being checked and frisked. He was identified to be a citizen from Bangladesh coming from Nepal via the Panitanki bridge with Rs 1330/- in Indian currency, Rs 60/- in Bangladeshi currency, Rs 10/- in Nepali currency and a Nokia Mobile. On interrogating him, he confessed that he had entered India through the hills on Indo Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur District. The apprehended person along with the seized items have been handed over at Khoribari Police Station on 25 Jan 15.
