Fire in Relli, near Mukti bridge Kalimpong

Fire in Relli, near Mukti bridge Kalimpong
Only a few days after the massive fire in Pedong, residents in Relli were seen battling another blaze, which eventually ended up completely burning down 10 houses, and left over 45 people homeless.

According to sources, the incident took place at around 12:30 P.M yesterday near Mukti bridge in Relli, which is situated around 10 kms away from Kalimpong town.

Most of the people living in this area, work at the Koirey (stones and sand mine by the river) and were living in the housing of one of their overseer Mr. Suren Moktan. The fire which started in that housing eventually ended up engulfing an ICDS School, a Maruti Car other than burning the housing down to the ground.

Not surprisingly by the time the fire brigade arrived the entire area had burnt down 90%.

Thankfully, there was no one in the housing, when this incident took place, due to which no one was injured or hurt.

The BDO Office Kalimpong has provided immediate relief materials, including tarpaulins, clothes, blankets, food and some cash.

However, these families need help and we are hopeful that GTA will step upto the plate and provide them with assistance on the lines of which they provided assistance to Pedong fire victims.
