Valentine Day in Darjeeling

Valentine Day in Darjeeling
On Valentine’s Day when the Darjeeling citizens were busy dining, cuddling, holding hands and exchanging gifts with their loves ones, the young folks of Team Who Cares (TWC) celebrated the day with a group of old people who were less cared or abandoned by their family members.

The team members distributed food packets, and red heart balloons to all the old people sitting idly in and around Chowrasta, in Darjeeling which were accepted with smiles and blessings.

Speaking to a local media, TWC Darjeeling Coordinator Pinky Biswakarma said, “Today was one of the blessed days of our lives. We are glad that we could bring smiles on their faces. But this smile won’t last another day, as most of these people have been left to fend for themselves, their children or family members don’t care for them, and are now helpless in this old age”.

Pinky has also requested Gorkhaland Territorial Administration officials to build an old-age home in the town saying, “I request the ruling party to make at least one old age home for both male and female.  It is the most important requirement in Darjeeling district, or else very soon these old people will turn into beggars due to neglect and lack of food and shelter.” (HS)
