Harisadhan Ghosh vice president of Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress joins BJP
A day after resigning as vice president of Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress, former Deputy Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation Harisadhan Ghosh on Tuesday joined BJP. He was welcomed to the saffron party by Darjeeling M.P. Surendra Singh Ahluwalia.

Though Ghosh’s was an expected political move, on Monday he had said he had not yet decided if he would join any other party. Known to be close to former Trinamoolnational general secretary Mukul Roy, Ghosh on Monday tendered his resignation to North Bengal Development minister Gautam Deb before making his decision public at a press conference. After resigning from Trinamool, Ghosh had criticized the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other leaders for “humiliating and insulting” Roy.

“Please don’t ask me the reason why I left Trinamool Congress because I don’t want to talk anything about the party that I have already left. I was attracted toward BJP due to their clean principles and ‘Swacha Bharat Abhiyan’ started by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Ghosh said in a Press conference on Tuesday morning when Ahluwalia announced his joining BJP. Ghosh also said that BJP will definitely shine and make India pride under the leadership of Modi.

Later, he told private television channels that in BJP he would get the opportunity which was being denied to him in Trinamool of serving the people. Ghosh also admitted that he was planning future political moves even when preparing for his resignation from Trinamool.

Ahluwalia told reporters  that Ghosh had met him and desired to join BJP. He said: “Ghosh is a loyal leader and always loves to work for the benefits of the people and remain among the people.”

When asked about the post for Ghosh in the party, Ahluwalia said that it would be decided later among the top leaders in the party.

Asked about Ghosh’s resignation from the party, North Bengal Development Department Minister Gautam Deb for his reaction he said, “He wanted to contest from ward 12 in the SMC polls. We tried to make it clear that the final decision would be taken by the state committee and we could not commit on it. That is why he left the party. Whatever else he has said is baseless. Ghosh is making allegations and various remarks only to hide the real reason.” (EOIC)
