Mahendra P. Lama, the founder of an apolitical organisation Darjeeling Dooars United Development Foundation (DDUDF) has decided to form a political party in the hills.
Lama, the former vice-chancellor of Sikkim University, today held a meeting with his supporters here.
"We held a meeting and our supporters were of the opinion that we should form a political party. We have assigned certain tasks amongst us and it may take a month or two before the party is formed but it will ultimately be formed," he said.
On September 2, 2013, the academician had got 55,767 votes in the Lok Sabha polls as against the winning BJP candidate S.S. Ahluwalia's 4,88,257 votes.
Roshan Giri, the general secretary of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, said over phone from Delhi: "Such things will not affect our party."
