Darjeeling police acts like the frontal organization of TMC

Ever since the people of Darjeeling overwhelmingly voted for United Gorkha alliance backed BJP candidate Shri Raju Bista, and Shri Neeraj Zimba, the TMC lead West Bengal government has once again started to unleash a reign of terror in the hills. Darjeeling police have started to act like the frontal organization of TMC once again, and are targeting our supporters, whose only fault is that they have remained loyal to our party President Bimal Gurung and Gorkhaland.

In this regard, I want to draw the attention of our friends in media to the targeted atrocities unleashed upon our supporters, by Darjeeling police.

As you are all aware, on the 29th of May 2019, 17 councillors (out of 30) from Darjeeling Municipality who are loyal to our President Bimal Gurung submitted a ‘No Confidence Motion” against the present board. Immediately following this, our spokesperson BP Bajgain was arrested. He has been slapped with numerous fabricated cases - including Arms possession, attempt to murder, riots and arson, on dates when he was in public canvassing in the Lok Sabha election. He is still in jail under 14-day judicial custody. That same night, there was an attempt on the life of senior GNLF leader Raju Subba, and his house was vandalize by Binay Tamang supporters. On 30th of May, senior GJM leader Tilak Chand Roka was arrested and similar cases were slapped against him.

Since the 30th of May, armed gangs of masked men have gone around visiting and threatening all the family members of councillors who had signed “no confidence motion” and threatened them of physical harm, and burning down their homes. On May 31st, armed masked men accompanied by Darjeeling police officials, threatened the villagers at Nimki Dara (Darjeeling), which is home to Noman Rai, one of the councillors who is seeking change in Municipal board.
On May 31st Nari Morcha leader Manjula Subba was arrested without any reason. On June 1st fabricated charges of kidnapping municipal councillors and holding them hostage was slapped against Noman Rai. On June 2nd our cadre Ms. Rajani Gurung was arrested, Ms. Lalita Chhetri was arrested on 7th June, Mr. Nima Tamang on the 9th and Mr. RP Waiba on 10th June.
Mr. RP Waiba is a proud 80-year-old Indian Army veteran, and also a veteran politician from Darjeeling hills. He was arrested and tortured in his cell, and he has sustained grievous injuries all over his body. His face was swollen when he was produced in the court. However the police prohibited everyone from clicking his pictures, and threatened the family with slapping additional cases against him if they insist on clicking his picture.
Since May 23rd, when the MP and MLA results were declared multiple raids have been conducted and police have arrested numerous GJM supporters, tortured them and threatened their family members. Darjeeling police and TMC loyal Binay-Anit camp is desperately trying to dissuade the municipal councillors who have joined BJP from voting for the no-confidence motion.
Through you all, I am appealing to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi to take a note of the state sponsored terrorism and tyranny unleashed in our hills. I also appeal to them to ensure that democracy and democratic rights of our supporters and ordinary citizens of Darjeeling hills are protected. I also appeal to them to demand immediate release of Shri RP Waiba who is a senior citizen, and also all our supporters who have been arrested on trumped up charges. I request them to initiate a Fact Finding Committee to determine which police officials are working as part-time TMC cadres, and hold them accountable for their actions against the democratic values of our nation.
