Railway Board chairman to take stock of DHR in Hills

Darjeeling: The chairman of the Railway Board is scheduled to visit Darjeeling to take stock of the world heritage Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. He will be holding a meeting with UNESCO representatives and Railway top brass. The chairman could be holding a meeting on September 13 or 14 in Kurseong. Ravinder Kumar Verma, divisional railway manager, Katihar, visited Darjeeling from Siliguri by a special coach on Monday. Talking to media persons regarding the encroachment issue, Verma said: "The intensity of the problem is highest from Siliguri to Sukna area. An action plan is being formulated regarding the removal of encroachment. It will be ready in the next 20 days. We will have to work together with the state government." Regarding the parking of bikes and cars on tracks, he stated that in such cases the Railways will seize the parked vehicles. Work has already commenced for the repair and renovation of Ghayabari and Sonada stations, which had been torched during the agitation of 2017 which had culminated in a 104 day-long bandh.
