GJM pays Mamata ‘courtesy call’

An eight-member team of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), including four party MLAs and general secretary Roshan Giri, today met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and told her about their decision to support the ruling party and sit on the treasury bench in the state assembly.
After meeting the GJM delegation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “It was a courtesy call. We all love Darjeeling and want the problems of hills and Junglemahal to be solved as soon as possible. The problems will be solved through dialogues and we have started the process. Proper development work in the area has also been initiated.” Banerjee further said GJM president Bimal Gurung is to meet her on Monday and state Chief Secretary will visit Darjeeling soon.
The GJM delegation has demanded a CBI inquiry into police firing in Sibchu tea garden in Jalpaiguri district on February 8 in which three GJM supporters were killed, said Giri. “We have also requested her to consider the release of the political prisoners. We were told the review committee has already started its work on the issue.

He further said they have urged the CM to regularize those staff members who are working on ad hoc basis in the Gorkha Hill Council for last 22 years. “Moreover, it is our request to withdraw the Z plus security cover of GNLF chief Subhash Ghising,” he said.
Giri said Banerjee has assured them that she would visit Darjeeling and see the condition of the area.
