Left skeptical of Gorkhaland pact---Show us details of pact, Biman Bose tells Mamata

The Left Front on Thursday strongly criticised the bipartite agreement signed between the state government and the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) and played down Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s assurance that ‘all issues have been resolved’.
After a Left Front State Committee meeting, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose told mediapersons that unless the whole agreement is made public, there is no point of lauding the state government’s efforts.
“We are unaware of the specific clauses on which the conflict is said to be resolved, neither has been any road map or boundaries provided. The de-facto points on which the agreement has been drafted is extremely unclear,” said Bose while questioning the integrity of the GJM leaders.
“On reaching the hills, the GJM leaders announced that this agreement is the foundation for Gorkhland. This only hints at their motive of bifurcating Bengal which we would oppose at any cost,” said Bose, adding that they would ask the state government to publish the complete pact.

The Left Front also decided to set up a Coordination Committee in the Assembly comprising the Leader of the Opposition, Deputy Leader of Opposition, Opposition chief whip and one representative from each of the Left Front parties.
A special workshop will be conducted for the 31 new MLAs of the Front to initiate them into the role of a responsible opposition.
The front will organise a two-day special programme on June 25 and June 26 to chalk out definite programmes to protest the “continued violence unleashed by Trinamool Congress” that is slowly pushing the state to an internal emergency-like situation similar to 1977.

The Left Front State Committee also took stock of the preliminary reports based on observations and statistics on the humiliating defeat of all Left parties in the Assembly Elections. The complete report based on booth-level analysis and district-level feedback would be tabled by the end of this month.
The CPM off late is visibly uncomfortable with the allegations levelled by Left other allies that its “high-handedness and arrogance” led to the miserable defeat in the elections.
Biman Bose, also CPM state secretary, refused to comment on this issue, saying that it would be discussed in the next Left Front meeting. He said the Left Front is unhappy with Sunanda Goswami, wife of former minister Kshiti Goswami, for accepting the post of the Chairperson of State Women’s Commission. The post was offered by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“She was never actively involved with the RSP but we are still contemplating discussion on this issue with others in the Front,” Bose said.

The Left Front is also quite disturbed with the alleged involvement of Sushanta Ghosh, former minister, in the recovery of numerous skeletons at Garbeta in West Midnapore. Named in an FIR, Ghosh apparently wrote to the Chief Minister demanding special security fearing threat to his life from Maoists. “We will talk to Ghosh. The party will take required steps,” said Bose.
Bose refuted claims of the family of deceased CPM legislator Mustafa Bin Kashem that the party forced him to contest the polls in spite of his severe illness, which might have forced him to commit suicide.
All these issues as well as a detailed discussion on the electoral debacle are most likely to come up in the Politburo and the Central Committee meeting to be held in Hyderabad .
