PTI | Howrah (WB) | Jul 18, 2011: The Janata Dal (United), a one-time ally of the Trinamool Congress, today opposed signing of the tripartite agreement for the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration to solve the Darjeeling issue.
"The Darjeeling pact will bring further socio-political turmoil in the state," JD(U) state president Amitava Datta said here.
The agreement would not solve the problem as the Mamata Banerjee led government acted in haste and irresponsibly, Datta said.
JD(U) was a constituent of the 12-party Paschim Bangla Ganatantrik Front led by Trinamool Congress formed in October 2005, a year before the assembly election in West Bengal.
The JD(U), which does not have much influence in the state, however, had no truck with Trinamool after the 2006 election which the Left Front won with a thumping majority.
