Kalimpong, Jul 30: A new militant organisation Underground Liberation Association has claimed responsibility for the July 26 stove burst incident near the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) bus stand here.
In a telephone call to a local reporter on Thursday night, ULA spokesperson M Thegmi claimed that they had triggered the explosion to protest the formation of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration as they favoured a separate Gorkhaland state.
Meanwhile, a team from the Kolkata-based Forensic Science Laboratory(FSL) was investigating whether any bomb or explosives were used.
Superintendent of Police, Darjeeling, Devendra Praksh Singh said police were verifying the ULA claim.
''The FSL team is investigating whether there are any traces of explosives. The tests will require three to six months. Only then will we know about the veracity of the ULA claim,'' Mr Singh said.
DIG, Darjeeling Range, N Rameshbabu, meanwhile, said investigations were on and some arrests would be made soon.
Incidentally, police has no information about this organisation.
Tension had gripped the hill town after the accidental stove burst. A vehicle was also partially damaged. No arrest had been made so far.
Local people had cried foul over the incident alleging it to be the handiwork of some miscreants who wanted to disrupt the new-found peace in the Hills.
