Kolkata, Aug 03: A second round of all party meeting would be held on August 19 to discuss renaming of the state as well as reorganisation of the districts, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said today.
The chief minister announced this at the Writers' Buildings after the completion of a one and half hour long all party meet that deliberated upon the issues.
Ms Banerjee informed that the August 19 all party meet would be held at the State Assembly.
She maintained that the renaming of the state was a 'sensitive issue' and so experts' opinion might be sought to come to a unanimous decision in this regard.
She further said State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee and Opposition Leader in the Assembly Surya Kanta Mishra were entrusted with the task of judging experts' opinion in this direction.
Referring to the proposal of renaming East Midnapore district as Tamralipta, the chief minister informed that the all party meeting did not approve it.
''It was only a proposal to rename East Midnapore as Tamralipta, but it was rejected as the majority of the all party meet participants were against it,'' the chief minister said.
Incidentally, the proposal to rename East Midnapore district as Tamralipta was mooted by Water Resources Investigation and Development Minister Soumen Kumar Mahapatra, an MLA from Tomluk.
However, five other Trinamool legislators from the district had written to the chief minister aginst renaming the district.
Mentioning about reorganisation of the districts for better administrative purposes, the chief minister said the August 19 meeting would discuss at length the pors and cons of the issue.
Informatively, the government had received proposal for reorganisation of six districts-- Burdwan, Asansol, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, North and South 24 Parganas and Murshidabad.
She said Jangalmahal and Darjeeling issue did not figure in the all party meet but added that she would discuss the Hills issue with Mr Mitra.
