Kolkata, Aug 3 : With the introduction of more user friendly website (http://sscer.org) for eastern region, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) today hoped the application from women candidates would surge over the time.
SSC chairman N K Raghupathy after unvailing the revamped website told reporters here that there was dearth of application from female candidates across the country compared with their male counterpart.
Despite examination fees being waved for women candidates, they form only 25-28 per cent of the total candidates, he pointed out.
He said the success rate in respect women candidates was even less, only eight-nine per cent.
He said all the nine regional offices of the SSC have been targeted ISO certification during this year.
Having formally announced the ISO certification of the eastern regional office, Mr R Aghupahty said ER's office of the SSC is the 5th regional office to obtain ISO certification.
Mr Raghupathy said in past two years there has been a tremendous surge in number of applications as well as recruitments handled by the SSC.
In respect of eastern region, the number of aplications received rose from 1,39,172 (2009-10) to 8,52,585 in 2010-11, while the number of candidates recommended for appoinment saw increase from 1432(2009-10) to 3266 (2010-11).
In the first seven months of this year the number of applications received and the number of candidates recommended for appoinment were 3,60,931 and 942 respectively.
The chairman said the SSC was in the process of recruitment of constables in Central Police Organisations (CPOs) under the Union Home Ministry.
This is the first time that the government decided to conduct a common recruitment examination for appoinment of constabkles in all the CPOs.
The Home Ministry has intimated that there are about 90,000 vacancies of constables in six CPOs.
This year Railway Protection force has also approached the SSC for conducting examination to recruit 15,000 persons for which 22 lakh applications have been received.
In coming years the advertisement for recruitment in the RPF would be done by the SSC staff.
Mr Raghupathy, however, informed that applications from Sikkim and Orissa were not adequate compared to other parts of the eastern region.
