TNN.CHANDIGARH: As part of the ongoing New Year Extravaganza at Sector-17 plaza, diverse folk music and dance forms of Eastern states besides the evergreen Sufina kalaams by Manak Ali of Patila gharana were a great hit. Manak had performed at leading venues in India besides Austria, Vienna and Singapore.
Setting the Sufiana mood, Manak kickstartedthe evening with kalaams, "Baba Bulleh Shah Waris Shah" and others like "Raiye Wo Naal Sajjann De Raiiye Wo" followed by "Kinu Kinu Dassan Raaz Diyan Gallan", "Sathon Ni Majjha Chaar Hundiyan" and more.
He won great applause from the audience, especially for his ghazals "Tujhe Kaun Janta Tha Meri Dosti Se Pehle", "Aap Mashook Kya Ho Gaye", "Layiyan Layiyan Mein Tere Naal."
Around 50 Sikkim students gave a traditional Sikkim dance performance. Group song by artist Lek Chering described the beauty of Sikkim girls by comparing them with a tree named Rhododendron found only in hills.
Girls lepcha dance by artist Phursong and Group described the nature and beauty of Sikkim.
Solo song by artist Lek Chering was the New Year song of the Lepcha tribe of Sikkim. The evening was inaugurated by the UT home secretary Anil Kumar.
