All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) flays excise departments

All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) Sunday has vehemently condemned the irresponsible act of excise department in dismantling Ethnic Food and Beverages Stalls at the NE Ethnic Food Festival at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati.

AAGSU information and publicity secretary, Nanda Kirati Dewan in a press handout which was made available to the media, alleged that on January 6, around 50 armed constables, enforcement inspector of excise, deputy superintendent, superintendent and two assistant inspectors arrived at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati, where the North East Ethnic Food Festival was going on with full ethnic spirit and vandalised the stalls and even beat up the women participants.
The food festival is part of the 6th International Trade Festival, being held at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Betkuchi.

According the organizers the NE Ethnic Food festival was primarily for promotion of the ethnic cuisines of the North east and the same was informed to excise department.
Talking to the media persons in Guwahati Sunday Nanda Kirati Dewan said , ‘Vandalism in the name of raid that too in an expo at the behest of the darkness on tribal women’s food stalls and beverages without any prior information is a condemnable act.

The AAGSU in strongest term condemned the act and seek proper investigation.  Meanwhile, AAGSU along with other ethnic organization decided to take to street if such act re-occurs in any part of the state.
