Kalimpong,Pradip Lohagun: In order to provide unemployed youths of
Kalimpong with a means to earn a livelihood, a seven-day training camp
is being held here at the North Bengal Agriculture University since
January 6. The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to
train unemployed youths in the hills at self-sustainment. The programme
has been undertaken by the Kalimpong District Magistrate office in
association with the Department of Self-Employment, informed NBAU
in-charge MW Moktan.
Moktan further said the training is
being undertaken by 18 unemployed youths from the eight blocks of
Kalimpong sub-division. The trainees are being groomed on mushroom
cultivation using latest techniques along with marketing strategies. The
youths are also being taught about food security, Moktan added.
Prominent agriculturalists including Dr.
Sharda Gurung, Dr. Sajit Ali, Dr. Indrajeet Sarkar and Dr. Ramkrishna
Sarkar are conducting the training that will conclude on January 12.
