BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 11 – The 25th triennial conference of Asom Gorkha Sanmelan will be held at Galia, Biswanath Chariali from January19 to 22.
Brisk preparations are going on in full swing to hold the conference. In the connection, a strong reception committee and 21 sub-committees have been formed at a public meeting with Loknath Upadhyay as president, Mahendra Basnet as executing president and Madan Thapa as general secretary.It is pertinent to mention that Asom Gorkha Sanmelan is known to be the leading organisation of the Nepalis living in Assam and it has completed 46 glorious years of existence.
The main programmes of the conference include inauguration of the central office and the last executive meeting of central committee on January 19, registration of delegates, flag hoisting, smriti tarpan, delegates’ sessions and inauguration of delegates’ camp on January 20, tree plantation, multi-lingual poetry session, formation of new central executive on January 21 and cultural rally and open session on January 22.
Several dignataries including Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will take part in the open session. Meanwhile, the lai-khuta of the main pandal was installed on January 4 by eminent Nepali writer Hari Gujural near Bhanu Ranga Mancha at Galia. A souvenir will also be released on the occasion. The reception committee has sought help and cooperation from people of every walk of life.
