Although these nine months remained peaceful in the hills after the assembly elections, violence broke out in four areas of Darjeeling when members of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) and Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) allegedly clashed near Sukna in Darjeeling leaving four persons seriously injured on Wednesday.
Today is the foundation day of GNLF for which the outfit’s supporters organised a celebration programmes at four places in Darjeeling, including Daridura, Mirik, Panighata and Sukna. The humble programmes were organised with prior permission of the district administration, said a senior GNLF leader.
However, the Yuva Morcha of GJM tried to get permission for a meeting at same venue though the GJM was not allowed to hold the meeting as prior permission was given to GJM. However, after the meetings of the GNLF started, the GJM supporters reached the area and started performing ‘puja’. In Mirik, the GJM and GNLF clashed in which four GNLF men are critically injured.
Additional SP, Darjeeling, Kunal Agarwal said, “A minor clash was reported in Mirik. Four GNLF men were injured. We have started a case. One of the injured persons have lodged an FIR against eight persons who are believed to be GJM men. We are investigating into the matter.”
The last clash between GJM and GNLF was reported after the Assembly election at Sonada following which Ghising left
