Kolkata, May 1 : West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee who was attending Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary celebration at Jorasanko Thakurbari on Monday, said that Girish Park Metro station will be renamed as Girish Park: Jorasanko Thakurbari, to honour the famous ancestral house of Tagore now turned into a varsity campus.
She also expressed her desire to turn Jorasanko Thakurbari into a museum.
“People coming from any part of the world should obviously visit this place and our next generation should know who Rabindranath was and what he did,” she said.
Banerjee did not finalize yet about turning Jorasanko Thakurbari into museum but expressed her desire and said: “As a member of government I am saying whatever help you need regarding Jorasankio must approach us.”
Banerjee also sang a Tagore song after requests.
Bratya Basu, West Bengal's Minister for Higher Education and Rachpal Singh, West Bengal Tourism Minister, were also present at the occasion.
Singers Promita Mallick and Swagata Laxmi regaled the audiences by singing some Tagore songs.
Another highlight of the function was a fashion show choreographed by Sanchita Kushaki where several Tollywood stars like Tota Roychoudhury, Locket, June, Tanushree and Nusrat to name a few walked with perfect grace.
All the models showcased the dresses that were worn by Rabindranath family in their time.
Actor Tota Roychoudhury who enacted and dressed like young Rabindranath Tagore, said: “I had to practise walking the way he used to walk because a single mistake can ruin everything. Even I have tried to follow the mannerisms and expressions because this is just not a regular fashion show.” (IBNS)
