Uttara Thapa hailed

UDALGURI, May 25 – The All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), the premier students’ organisation of the Nepali speaking students of the State, in a press release congratulated Uttara Thapa of Assam Valley School, Balipara in Sonitpur district who brought laurels to the State with her brilliant performance securing the first rank in the recently declared ICSE Class XII final examination in Arts faculty with 98.75 per cent.

Disclosing this, Jagadish Khanal and Keshab Sarmah, president and general secretary of the students’ organisation said that the brilliant performance of the student will be instrumental in inspiring the present generation of student community.

It is to be noted that Uttara had recorded similar performance in her Class X examination two years ago. The irony of fate is that her father, Narayan Thapa, senior professor of St Joseph College of Shillong, expired just 13 days ahead of her declaration of the result. Uttara is now living with her mother at Darjeeling and showed her keen interest in studying Social Science or History in which she obtained cent per cent marks. She also aims to become a civil servant in future to serve the nation.

Meanwhile, Assam Gorkha Sammelan, Akhil Assam Gorkha Sammelan, Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Assam, Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Junkiri Trust, Guwahati, etc, also congratulated Uttara.

In another press release, AAGSU condemned the killing of Pushpa Basnet, a seventeen year student, in Manipur recently after rape by miscreants and demanded of the Manipur State government to apprehend the culprits at the earliest.
