A high-power committee set up by the West Bengal government to look into the demand for inclusion of Gorkha-dominated areas in the Terai and Dooars as demanded by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha today submitted its report.
The 10-member high-powered committee, headed by justice (retd) Shyamal Kumar Sen submitted its report to Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh.
The GJM has demanded inclusion of a number of mouzas (an area less than a subdivision) in the Terai and Dooars in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts in the jurisdiction of the proposed new hill council, Gorkha Territorial Administration.
The chief secretary told reporters that he would look into the report tomorrow and there was no need to place it in the state Assembly.
He said that the report on delimitation had earlier been submitted to the home secretary.
Ghosh said that election to the GTA could take place in second week of July. Election would take place in 45 seats, while there would be 5 nominated members.
