Siliguri, Aug.28.TT: Father Joseph
Murray Abraham, an educationist and philanthropist who had spent more
than six decades working for the welfare of the people of Kurseong, died
at Flame of Hope — a home for disabled — in Matigara today.
The 86-year-old
Father was suffering cardiac and breathing problems. He had been the
headmaster of St Alphonsus School in Kurseong for 22 years.
“This afternoon,
just past 12, Father Abraham breathed his last. He died peacefully. He
brought peace, joy and love to so many people in the Darjeeling hills.
His funeral service will be held at 2.30pm tomorrow in Kurseong. He was
currently the Chaplain at the Flame of Hope,” said Father Kinley
Tshering of the Darjeeling Jesuits.
Nanda Kishore
Thapa, the assistant headmaster of St Alphonsus who was a student of the
institution, said Abraham was a “disciplinarian”, yet a “compassionate
person”.
