LUCKNOW: The 66th Raising Day of the 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre (11 GRRC) was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fanfare in Cantonment on Tuesday. The celebrations began in the morning with the hoisting of Regimental Flag by Colonel Pankaj Singh, officiating commandant, 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre in the centre premises. This was followed by a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the 11 GRRC War Memorial to pay homage to those who laid down their lives in the defence of the country. Col Pankaj Singh followed by Sub Maj Khadak Chand laid wreaths on behalf of all ranks of 11 Gorkha Rifles (GR). The last post was then sounded and a two minutes silence was observed for the peace of the departed souls.
The martyrs include Maj U Jaitley, Lt HS Bist, Lt S Chhettri, Sub GB Limbu, Sub BB Rai, Hav Mahendra Rai, NK Karki Limbu, Padam Dhoj Limbu, Rfn Suk Bahadur Rai, Rfn Dhan Bahadur Gurung, Rfn Chandra Limbu, Rfn Bhim Bahadur Limbu, Lnk Kul Bahadur Rai, Sub Lal Bahadur Rai, Lnk Ram Bahadur Rai, Rfn Aita Prasad, Rfn Kharka Bahadur Rai, Nk Durga Prasad Limbu, Rfn Gajendra Kumar Rai, Lnk Ratna Bahadur

Earlier, at the regimental temple prayers were offered for the well being of the 11 GR personnel and their families. Special Barakhana was also organised in which all serving and retired officers, junior commissioned officers and other ranks residing in Lucknow participated.
The 11 Gorkha Rifles was raised after Independence on January 1,1948 at Palampur in Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh from amongst the non-optees of 7th and 10th Gorkha Rifles. For the last 65 years, the units and personnel of the regiment have lived up the call of duty both in war and peace time. This is evident from the impressive tally of gallantry awards and decorations, which include one Param Veer Chakra, the highest gallantry award, won by Capt Manoj Pandey (posthumous) during the 1999 Kargil Operations, four Ashok Chakras, 11 Param Vishist Seva Medals, two Maha Veer Chakras, 14 Veer Chakras, thirteen Shaurya Chakras, 24 Vishist Seva Medals, 87 Sena Medals and 31 Mentioned-in-Dispatches. Two battalions of the Regiment have also been awarded Battle Honours during Indo-Pak War of 1971 and Kargil War of 1999. 11 GRRC was awarded General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in- C), Central Command Unit Citation on 15 Jan 2010.
The 249th Raising Day anniversary celebrations of Army Medical Corps (AMC) concluded with special sainik sammelan held at AMC open air auditorium in Cantonment here on Tuesday. Lt Gen SS Panwar, Commandant, AMC Centre and College, OIC Records AMC and Colonel Commandant, AMC addressed the sainik sammelan.
Earlier, Lt Gen SS Panwar laid a wreath at AMC War Memorial to pay homage to those martyrs who laid down their lives in the defence of the country. The last post was then sounded and a two-minute silence was observed for the peace of the departed souls. Lt Gen SS Panwar conveyed his warm wishes to all officers, junior commissioned officers, other ranks, civilian employees and their families. He also appreciated the good work being carried out by the AMC personnel and complimented all ranks for maintaining high standards of training and professionalism.
On this occasion numbers of awards were presented by Lt Gen SS Panwar namely Lt Gen (Dr) B Sadananda rolling trophy for best recruit to recruit nursing assistant Chitresh Kumar, Lt Gen PV Ramchandran award for best NCO to Havildar Clerk TN Bajirao and Hav Ambulance Assistant Gopi Chand and Lt Gen SR Mehta rolling trophy to Subedar Major RK Bora. The overall best unit award rolling trophy was given to Number-1 Technical Training Wing. The trophy was received by Brig AK Verma, Commander Number-1 Technical Training Wing. The Special Sainik Sammelan was attended by Maj Gen VK Ratan, deputy commandant and chief instructor of AMC Centre and College and large number of AMC senior army officers, junior commissioned officers and other ranks. Later, a special Barakhana was organised.
